Do I qualify for a boiler grant?

In 2013, the Government introduced the ECO Scheme for the purpose of improving the energy consumption of homes and to support a fuel poverty population in the United Kingdom.

If you have an inefficient boiler or experiencing issues with your current one, Energy Saving Grants can help you receive a boiler completely free of charge, or source the appropriate funding to help subsidise the cost.

What is the grant?

Energy Saving Grants source the relevant funding through the governments ECO incentive, which was introduced to help low-income households access home efficiency improvements, reducing the cost of heating homes, and decrease carbon footprints. If you meet the benefits criteria, and your current boiler is, at least, five years old, you could qualify.

The funding sourced by Energy Saving Grants is not a loan and non-repayable, this means you will not have to pay any money back at any point. Terms and Conditions are simple, and the amount of funding you get is determined by the efficiency of your home. Therefore, an energy assessment must be carried out - free of charge.

What Qualifies For a FREE Boiler?

If you obtain the combined income-related benefits, including tax credits, income support, ESA or JSA, then your old boiler could be replaced with a new A-rated boiler for FREE.

Your current gas boiler must be at least over five years old, if it is less than five years old, the scheme creates an assumption that is more cost effective to repair your old boiler, rather than to replace the boiler completely.

Some of the benefits mean that you will qualify for a boiler grant automatically, with no other requirements, however, extra qualifying components may apply.

How is the Boiler Free?

As being part of the EU, the UK has been given specific targets to reduce the carbon footprint within its homes. ECO (Energy Company Obligation) plays a significant part in reaching this target. A small percentage of money which is fixed into a household energy bill is paid towards ECO; these financials are controlled by the Big Six energy suppliers who are obliged by the United Kingdom Government to fund the installation of FREE boilers and insulation into low-income households. If you do not currently receive benefits, and your boiler needs replaced, suitable finance options may be available.

Reduce Your Gas Bill

Replacing your old, inoperative boiler with a brand new, A-rated boiler could reduce your energy bills by up to £300 per year. Think about it - If your current boiler is up to 65% efficient, meaning that for every £1 you spend on your heating bill, 35p of that is wasted. In contrast, modern boilers are 90% more efficient, meaning that a new boiler will have wastage of less than 10p for every £1 you spend. If you receive the correct mixture of benefits, you could have your current gas boiler replaced for completely for FREE via the UK's ECO boiler grant scheme.
